CORNERS OF VIENNA
THE TRIUMPH OF ADVERTISING
In the rapidly growing cities of the 19th century, announcements had to be made accessible to a large mass of people. Word of mouth, which had been common before, was no longer sufficient. The poster as the diary of the street is born. Soon the notices are used for more than just political announcements. With the founding of Gewista in 1921, the advertising spaces of the Viennese are regulated and public transport is used to control the uncontrolled growth. Gewista, with its 100-year history, has become an integral part of the city's image and is now one of Europe's biggest players in outdoor advertising in urban areas.
